WHY HOLISTIC SKINCARE?

Updated: Oct 1, 2021

When I was in nutrition school I was taught that the healthier you are on the inside the better your skin will look on the outside. I also noticed this with my clients when I owned Basil & Barbells, a Personal Chef/Personal Trainer/Holistic Nutrition business in NYC.

My clients weren't only healthier, reducing the need for medications in some cases, but they looked better, younger, their skin was dewy and in some cases the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles was diminished. Researching this further I came to learn that the nutrients that keep us healthy, Vitamin C for example (given it's winter, C is definitely on my mind), is also a natural component of our skin. And we've all heard we need Vitamin D from the sun but lack of it can cause skin conditions such as dermititis.

Vitamin E can help prevent premature aging, fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants such as carotenoids (dark colored pigments in produce) have been shown to reduce the risk of cancer and protect skin from free radicals and the signs of aging. Why not give your skin a fighting chance by consuming healthy fruits and vegetables.

I was taught this same approach to healthy skincare when I taking a diploma course in Organic Skincare Formulation. We were taught that an unhealthy lifestyle will work against the best skincare products we could create. This is why, in order to continue to look younger or correct aging skin, a holistic approach to skincare should be taken
