Why I Use Plant Pressed Oils in Our Products

If your use our products you may have noticed, most of them are oil based. I know this sounds counterintuitive,

but there is a method to my madness.

You see, as we age, there are metabolic processes that occur in our bodies that cause our skin to become dry and dull.

The misconception is that dry skin needs water, which is incorrect, dry skin needs oil more than it needs water.

Oils in general create a barrier over the skin – in skincare terms it’s called an occlusive. This barrier/occlusive keeps the skin from loosing water and keeps the skins barrier function healthy.

The nutrients in the oils are then absorbed and used to nourish and protect the skin.

The oils we use are all pressed from familiar seeds of plants we eat everyday – avocado, coconut, apricot, pomegranate, cucumber, cranberry, sunflower, pumpkin, macadamia, carrot, wheat germ and raspberry.

We also use oils pressed from seeds from plants found around the world, that I had never heard of until I started my research – kukui, baobab, tamanu, argan, marula, sea buckthorn.

There’s even a couple of flowers thrown in – sunflower, evening primrose, borage and hibiscus.

The nutrients in our ingredients help the skins function barrier stay healthy, reduce the appearance of aging, help skin cells regenerate, act as antioxidants, protect against UV damage, and have anti-inflammatory properties.

Another reason I prefer oil-based products is that 100% of the product consists of “active” ingredients.

Read the ingredient list of any water-based product and the first ingredient is water. This means, that depending on the thickness of the product, it can have anywhere form 65% - 90% water (the thinner the product the more water). With water comes the need for a preservative system (water breeds bacteria, oil does not) which can be another 1% - 4%, depending on the system used – the more water, the more preservative needed. Water-based products will need thickeners and emulsifiers as well.

When all is said and done, the actual amount of product that is nourishing the skin is very small.

In oil-based products 100% of the product is nourishing the skin.

This is why I created a brand of oil-based, non-toxic, anti-aging serums.
